The Task Force on Gender Issues within the ITU serves as the main organ for effecting the mainstreaming of gender issues. In collaboration with the Development Sector, it aims to ensure that the benefits of telecommunications and the emerging information society are made available to all women and men in developing countries on a fair and equitable basis. United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women - UNDAW UNDAW advocates the improvement of the status of women of the world and the achievement of their equality with men. It aims to ensure the participation of women as equal partners with men in all aspects of human endeavour. It promotes women as equal participants and beneficiaries of sustainable development, peace and security, governance and human rights. It strives to stimulate the mainstreaming of a gender perspective both within and outside the United Nations system. United Nations Development Program - UNDP Gender in Development Programme (GIDP) advises, supports and facilitates UNDP gender equality policy, dialogue and practice, and promotes the empowerment of women. The UNDP Virtual Gender Library is maintained by the the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS.
United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean - ECLAC Promoting gender equality in Latin America and the Caribbean, ECLAC's Women and Development website contains a set of gender statistics for the region, various publications and studies, information on projects, meetings and other events (available in Spanish only). The ECLAC Gender Statistics (Estadísticas de género) website is home to 22 profiles of countries in the region, based on a minimum set of indicators, and to a series of regional comparative socio-economic indicators relating to: population and health, education, households and family, employment, income and political participation. The data has been updated to the period 1999-2000 for all the countries with the corresponding data. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation - UNESCO UNESCO's website on women and gender equality contains information on UNESCO's efforts to integrate a gender perspective in its work. UNESCO's Institute for Statistics provides online access to data on education and literacy. United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees - UNHCR Contains among other information, statistical information on refuges and other persons of concern to the UNHCR as well as information about a series of special programmes UNHCR has developed to ensure that women have equal access to protection, basic goods and services as they attempt to rebuild their lives.
